Business Analyst - Risk Systems

Location

Toronto

Responsibilities:

The Business Analyst-Risk Systems will be responsible for providing business analysis and project management support for Risk and Performance Systems initiatives.  The business analyst will participate in the management of relationships with Information Services clients, business partners mainly within Portfolio Design and Risk Management areas and solution vendors. This would include assisting in and /or facilitating the process/ methodology research, solution recommendation, planning, documentation and implementation of appropriate systems and processes.

  • Apply strong business understanding to facilitate risk and performance process modelling and business requirement gathering sessions 

  • Use previews experience to support gathering of risk/ performance system functional requirements and support system implementation activities 

  • Assist project leaders in identifying project risks and developing risk management plans 

  • Assist in the preparation of project documentation including but not limited to project objectives, milestones, budgets, cost and resources estimates 

  • Liaise with developers and business subject matter experts to brainstorm and document innovative solutions alternative 

  • Attend project planning meetings and translate outcomes into project plans and schedules 

  • Participate in vendor selection by co-ordinating the preparation of RFI/RFP material, screening and evaluating responses and facilitating subject matter expert evaluations 

  • Help execute testing plans in conjunction with Quality Assurance Specialists 

  • Participate in resource planning, project monitoring and risk management functions 

  • Assist in the development of implementation plans and user training/education programs 

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Masters degree in Business/Economics, Computer Science or equivalent degree with an emphasis on statistics, economics and finance. 

  • 3-5 years experience working in a related role within the financial services industry 

  • Strong quantitative research and portfolio management, trading or investing skills 

  • Familiar with various risk measurements, methodologies and terminologies 

  • Familiar with investment risk packages is an asset, including one or more of the following: RiskMetrics, HiRisk, Algorithmic, Sungard and modeling packages such as MatLab or SAS 

  • Investment management and/or capital markets industry on the buy-side experience is preferred. 

  • CFA/ FRM or CFA/ FRM candidate would be an asset 

  • Excellent process modeling/engineering skills 

  • Proven ability to liaise with business subject matter experts in gathering of business requirements 

  • Understanding of project life cycle and methodologies 

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills 

  • Experience interacting with external system providers and consulting organizations 

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills
